Mumbai, June 10, 2013: Pfizer Inc. has today (June 2, 2013) announced it has received a consent order from the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the registration and supply of sildenafil citrate (Viagra) tablets in the United States for sale through the United States online pharmacy Health Canada.
The consent order, issued on March 28, 2013, will expire on March 31, 2013, and is subject to approval by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) which will then issue the original consent order for use of the medication.
Sildenafil Citrate is a phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) inhibitor for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED). Viagra was the first drug approved to treat ED in the United States for this purpose in 1999. Since then, Pfizer has sold approximately 5.3 million Viagra tablets.
The consent order will expire on March 31, 2013, and is subject to approval by the FDA which will then issue the original consent order for use of the medication.
The consent order was granted by Pfizer’s parent company, Pfizer Inc., and is expected to expire in the first quarter of 2013. The approval from the FDA will remain pending the approval of the consent order and will become effective as of May 31, 2013.
